Our Story

A taste of paradise in the Hertfordshire countryside

There’s something for everyone at the newly refurbished Rose & Crown in Essendon. Enjoy stunningly original food served in our sumptuous, modern restaurant. Or simply unwind with a pint in our relaxed, comfortable bar or garden after a walk through some of Hertfordshire’s most beautiful countryside.

Whatever you choose, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome.

Chas and Debbie Davis, owners for more than 30 years, have blended new and old to transform the 250-year-old former coaching inn into a unique foodie’s paradise. Head chef Alex Parker has used all his experience from six years at Bibendum, a 2 star Michelin London restaurant, to create a mouth-watering, contemporary menu based on the finest seasonal produce from local suppliers. There’s one of the area’s most extensive wine lists and a cocktail station to complete an experience you’ll never forget.

At the same time, this is still the bustling, dog-friendly, family-run pub that our regulars know and love. The same idyllic, village location – in the middle of Hertfordshire’s famed Golden Triangle, but just 10 minutes from the A1 and M25. The same oasis of calm in which to relax and enjoy the finer things in life.
